Be cautious of moving parts, or parts that will be moving once the engine is started. Next:
- Attach the red lead on one end of the cable to the positive post on the battery, or the terminal marked in red under the hood (on vehicles where the battery isn’t easily accessible.)
- Make sure the leads on the other end of the cable aren’t touching.
- Attach the black lead to a solid ground, or the negative battery terminal if there’s no bare metal ground points within reach. Consult your manual for good ground point locations.
- Being careful not to touch the leads together on the other side, follow the same procedure on the other vehicle. If it isn’t running already, start it up.
- Wait a couple of minutes, then give yours a try - it should start right up. If not, re-check the connections and give it a few more minutes.
